Our 5th and 7th Graders will be taking the California Healthy Kids Survey during the month of February. Permission Slips will be going home soon! 5th grade requires parent permission. 7th grade is opt out only.
The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is a confidential survey that collects information about student health and well-being, school safety, and school climate. The survey is administered to students in grades 5, 7, 9, and 11.
What does the CHKS collect information about?
School climate: The survey assesses the school's culture, conditions, and safety
Student health: The survey asks about physical activity, nutrition, and substance use
Student well-being: The survey asks about mental health, social-emotional learning, and resilience
Student engagement: The survey asks about learning motivation, attendance, and connectedness
How is the CHKS used?
The survey provides data for the state, schools, and communities
The survey helps schools and communities improve student learning and school climate
The survey helps the state implement programs to improve health and well-being
How is the CHKS administered?
The survey is voluntary and anonymous
Parents must give written consent for students in grades below 7
Parents can opt out their child from the survey in grades 7 and above
